Susie, a fourteen-year-old girl, is murdered and refuses to move on from purgatory saying she has unfinished business and continues to watch over her family and her killer.
A genre-bending fantasy mystery thriller brilliantly directed by Peter Jackson.
With a very unique plot, full of tension, suspense and few great twists, stunningly filmed and made all the better by a superb ensemble cast including Saoirse Ronan, Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Michael Imperioli, Susan Sarandon and an extremely creepy turn from Stanley Tucci.
Add to this a very haunting tone-setting score from Brian Eno and this is a movie which I feel is criminally underrated and possibly a little misunderstood due to its mixing of genres, it also gives off a few Stephen King style vibes which is a bonus as I’m a huge fan of his work.
